Our German Adventure Begins.

We headed from Dusseldorf and went down to the Rhine River. The river runs extremely fast heading towards the Netherlands. The barges going with the water were sailing fast. The Barges heading up towards Switzerland were facing the full force of the fast river and proceeding slowly. From the river we headed to Koln(Cologne) and looked around the town. This is on the Rhine River - which is an industrial river. Lots of things were manufactured along the Rhine River for World War 2 German Forces. In fact the whole of Koln was bombed by the Allies along with Dusseldorf.

 Duesseldorf on the RHINE RIVER

We went especially to see the Gestappo museum and the Lindt Chocolate Museum.

the chocolate fountain where they give you wafers with fresh runny choclolate
Out the window near the chocolate fountain are all the cruise boats you see on tv for European cruising. Met lots of Americana at the chocolate factory....

We drove onwards to Bonn and reddened up in Koblenz( where the Rhine River meets the Mosel River.
We went up to the fortress by cable car and walked the city. We expected a small town ,but as per most towns along the Rhine they are huge towns. The Rhine river serviced the German Army in WW2 by manufacturing components and sending the products by barge down the river. Koblenz was badly damaged in WW2 and the fortress  was used for anti aircraft gunning.

The mosel river has many grape vines plantations that run from the top of the hill to the river. The train also runs along botgh rivers. You can see the colour of the mosel river is muddy dark as it merges with the rhine river.
