Robinvale in Victoria is linked with Villers-Bretinnoux by namesake.
We enjoyed a beautiful drive in the french countryside from Villers-Bretinnoux towards Lille. This was the Western Front in World War 1. Most people will know of this town as our Media always show the service on Anzac Day.The War Memorial is in between Villers-Bretinnoux and Corbie . It is situated on Hill 104. Corbie is where the Red Baron was shot down by Australian Troops .Our drive included stopping at other town Dernancourt,Albert,Pozieres( the site of the turning Point of the Battle of Somme. Australia's first use of tanks in a war and Australia's first engagement in World War 1), Bapaum, Vaulx Vracourt, Bullecourt, Marquien, Arieux, Vitry-En Artois .Australia has a memorial statue in Bullecourt and ther, we saw a fete on. So we stopped there and looked at the small fete and the boys had a few goes on the dogems cars. Its amazing as Kieran and Tristan can't speak French and they made friends with three other young boys and enjoyed bumping into each other and playing chasing in the street. What is amazing also is the amount of red poppies growing in the fields and alongside the roads .Also when you look at this area , it looks like there is a small town every 2 kilometres or so. Just spot the church Steeple or in nowdays- spot the huge white wind turbine.
Our Current Queen Elizabeth's parents opened the war memorial in 1938.
